a long awaited entry on the recent macau trip! i shall include some personal tips for navigating in macau, hk and zhuhai.
haha i think when i start to blog it means i am getting too bored…lol!
day 1
took an afternoon flight by jetstar :)

don don says he just love the thrill of seeing the planes get ready for take off…

on the plane to macau :)

jetstar is really so so crammed! - but that is budget airline for you. oh wells.

reached macau at about 6pm but by then the sky was already getting really dark, because I think they have shorter day and longer night?

our first meal at the macau airport, not because we were hungry, but because we were really in need of small change for taxi fare later.

i ♥ vitasoy!
yup so after checking into the hotel, we stepped out into the cool windy night and started our hunt for some nice local food. ;)

don don with his red pork meat rice and warm milk tea
i noticed in macau, hk and china, the meals generally consists of either beef/pork with some boiled vegetables and rice. I can hardly find any dishes with fish. :(
oh yar, and the portion of food are seriously big. Not that I’m a small eater, because even don don agrees!

after our dinner, since it was dark, we found it pointless to explore further attractions so it was off to the casinos!
they have 32 casinos in macau (like wtf) and i’m glad because it meant free shuttle buses to various attractions from the casinos, which helped us save abit in taxi fares.
also, with casinos, the nights at macau seems to be so much livelier!

guess where we were at? :)

we were at the venetian! it’s one of the most beautiful and talked about casino in macau, and thankfully just 10 minutes away from my hotel. ;)

the architectural designs are venice-inspired. :)

it’s just like a mini-world inside, even though it is dark outside, the interiors of venetian will always be bright like a cool sunny day.
i think our marina bay sands casino also used the idea of having staffs row gondolas like that? except that it looks so much classier in the venetian :D

the casino - can you tell that it is very packed?!
so that was about it for day 1. :)
day 2
our day 2 itinerary was to go to zhu hai (china). and to get there from macau is relatively easy, as you just have to get to this place called the border gate, and then it is simply a walk-through to the customs and you will reach zhu hai.
think singapore and johor bahru and you will be able to understand how near it is.

outside the border gate area!
the weather was super cold in the morning, and at one point of time i think i was wearing up to 4 layers of clothing including that jacket! *gasp*
reached the famous zhu hai mall (just outside of the customs) and we had our brunch!

stewed pork rice - omfg it is yummy :)

fried oyster omelette, for like SGD $2+ ?

love the veges :)
anyway i can tell zhu hai is really a shopping haven for all the ladies out there ;) don don is lucky enough because it was the winter season and everyone was selling winter clothes, so i did not buy a lot of stuffs.
hence warning to all bfs going with their gfs, please go during the winter season. you will appreciate this piece of advice next time.
and luckily i did heed lei’s advice - haggle! even if the thing costs 100 RMB, say you’ll only buy it at 20RMB! then you’ll probably get your stuff at 30-40RMB, which is still quite a steal. :)
after zhu hai we headed back to macau to put our things down in hotel. then it’s dinner time!
*i’m sorry but this whole trip just seems to have a lot of eating hahaha!

portugese style vegetable soup

the nice salmon fried rice with fish roe

don don is thinking how to finish it all on its own!

i can’t help him as i can’t even finish mine :(
the thing about eating at macau: the food in the picture doesn’t look appetizing at all. if the food comes with complimentary side dishes, it is not shown in the picture either.
in one good way, when you expect lesser, it actually comes out better. the food turns out to be quite nice and different from the menu pictures ; often comes with free side dishes that we can’t finish!
we walked around the hotel estate after eating…

at the park

don don testing the roadside parking meter :D srsly have no idea how it works but it looks cute

that pretty much concluded my 2nd day, we were both exhausted from all the walking in zhu hai!
day 3
the third day was more exciting because it was to HK! :D
i ♥ hk

our tickets to hk on turbo jet :)
from macau ferry terminal, you can take the 45 minute ferry ride to hk ferry terminal, which is at sheung wan station, abit like our harbourfront ferry terminal actually.

the ferry was pretty big and spacious, more spacious than the plane i took. :(
i fell asleep for the 45 minutes onboard…

reached hk! :)
we wanted to eat some authentic hk dim sum but guess we’re abit late? so we settled for early lunch instead.

gong zai mian (公仔面)
these must be the most delicious maggi mee ever :D
we also walked to this dessert shop that i’ve been to the last hk trip.

and then it is shopping time :)

some random shopping mall that looks promising but ends up being full of boring men’s clothings.

just love shopping on weekdays.

eating my favourite stinky tofu from a street stall - don don refused to talk to me after that.

this is the famous lady’s market in hk located near mong kok station. it is just like a pricier pasar malam in singapore. buy only if you are feeling charitable.

dinner at a local noodles restaurant. omg don’t their prawn wantons just look fabulous?

so tired from 1 whole day of walking! hk streets have practically no place for resting man.

avenue of stars at night :) it is about a 10 minute walk from tsim sha tsui mtr station.

:))
that was end of day 3…!
day 4
i think i like this day the most. we had no planned itinerary, just took random buses everywhere in macau and go to wherever the bus takes us. :D
our morning goal was to eat dim sum so we woke up super early and took a bus outside of our hotel. luckily the bus did brought us to some chinese restaurant and i got to eat my dim sum! :)

one thing about macau and hk in general that i strongly don’t like: smoking is allowed practically everywhere…even in air-conditioned restaurants / shopping malls!
that really turned me off.

again we took a random bus and good enough we reached one of macau’s must see attraction - the senado square.
i have to say, macau’s bus system is good in a way because they cover the routes to practically most of the attractions. pretty convenient for tourists to navigate around. :)

it’s a very old street i guess…and while at the main part of the square looks quite stylish, they have a lot of old stalls down the street as well.

this was taken at an old church located in the senado square.

this is a really old styled confession booth!
before we left the church we each made a small donation. for peace, and just simple blessings. :)

lol i instructed don don to look emo ;D

eating the super nice portugese egg tart :)

happy food for dinner ♥

nom nom nom

:D

taking a bus from the bus interchange to our next destination
actually taking a cab in macau/hk is not that expensive either. it costs around $2+ for the initial fee, and the meter jumps really really slowly and at a very minor increase. :)

:) too bad it was already closed for the day by the time we reached.
we can only walk around and enjoy the scenery!

we saw one couple taking their wedding photos at the fisherman’s wharf…indeed it is a great place for that!

as it was the last night there, we decided to try our luck at the sands casino there! :D
luckily for us we had some small winnings, which was good enough for us because we were prepared to lose some money anyways!
day 5
aww the last day of the trip is always the saddest :(
always looking forward to breakfast there ;D

ordered this again because i think i will miss it very much when i’m back. :)

don don ordered this lemon water as he thought this was lemon tea. but it was really lemon + plain water fml

the last day was nothing much, as we had to reach the airport around 3pm.
we just went back to senado square to get all the portugese tarts and any last minute shopping. :)

when we went to the airport that day we were notified of the flight delay. we waited for frigging 5 hours in the boring airport. should have just compensated us another day at macau. lol!
yep that probably summed up our macau trip :)
i miss the place!! would definitely visit again!
